[0.0s] D&D 5th Edition Actual Play Podcast [16.6s] Welcome to Dumbgeons and Dragons. We're at D&D 5th Edition Actual Play Podcast. [21.0s] And thank you for being here with us. I'm your Dungeon Master, Russ More. [23.9s] And with me today is Tom Laird. [26.4s] That's me. I play Flint Firebeard. [28.8s] He is a level 8 dwarf champion fighter. [32.0s] A little background on Flint. [34.0s] He was a long-serving member of a militia force called the Iron Fist of the Dawn. [39.6s] He slowly but surely rose up through their ranks. [42.8s] But then he made captain and some new leadership came in and his mentor left the company. [48.8s] And then these new guys pretty focused on greed and a lot of shady activities. [53.6s] So Flint bought his way out. [55.6s] Got out of there and met up with a friendly druid and a ranger who I guess you'll meet next. [60.8s] Also with me, Amy More. [62.8s] Hey, that's me. I play Thea Amastasia, a high elf druid. [68.8s] She's part of the Circle of the Moon and she's about 200 years old, level 8. [75.6s] 5'9", bright green eyes, brilliant blue hair. [79.6s] She was a scribe for a while. [81.2s] I like to bring that up because, you know, books and writing and stuff. [86.0s] But in reality, she's actually a bit of a drug dealer. [89.6s] The way that her and Flint found each other was she was supplying him on the DL [93.2s] with a little bit of weed for that mercenary PTSD he has going on there. [97.6s] And Newlar and I found each other in a forest fighting an orc, I do believe. [103.2s] You'll also see me with one of my best animal buds, Guacamole, [107.6s] who's a jade serpentine owl that I keep with me and can call out. [114.0s] Giant owl at any moment. Super cool. That's not what my owl sounds like. [119.3s] She's a snowy owl, by the way, sorry. [121.1s] And last but not least, Carla Johnson. [123.7s] That is me. I play Newlar Moonbrook. [126.6s] She is an 8th level human ranger. [129.4s] She grew up pretty isolated, except for her huge family. [133.4s] She has six older brothers. She grew up near High Forest. [137.0s] And she was kind of a loner, maybe because she was the only girl [141.2s] or because she was the youngest. [142.4s] But she really like learned everything she could from those big bros. [145.4s] And then just like headed out to kind of, you know, be a ranger in the woods. [151.2s] Her and Thea met. There was an orc. [153.4s] They realized, are we destined to become best friends? Maybe. [158.1s] She has an animal best friend, though. [160.1s] He is a pseudo dragon and his name is Donnie. [163.2s] Thank you for being here with us. [164.5s] We've been playing around the table for, I don't know, two years at this point. [168.3s] Yeah, sounds about right. [169.4s] Somewhere about there. [170.1s] We've got a little bit of history with these characters. [171.9s] We played through Horde of the Dragon Queen, [175.1s] the first book in the Tyranny of Dragons saga from Wizards of the Coast. [179.6s] And right now we decided to hit record [182.7s] and continue playing this game here now for you. [186.0s] So that's what we have for you. [187.1s] You're jumping in midstream as we kick off Rise of Tiamat. [190.8s] Thank you very much and we'll talk to you soon. [192.7s] Anytime I hear midstream, I always think someone's interrupting someone else peeing. [196.4s] I mean, that's kind of what they're doing. [200.6s] OK, now the episode. [203.3s] So last time you went through a bunch of doors, which was super exciting. [209.0s] And then you got back to Salazar there and he told you [212.8s] that you have been invited to a council meeting in Waterdeep, [216.9s] invited by Leosin, your good friend from the previous adventures. [221.4s] While you are in his office, he says, [225.0s] I think it's time that you guys are a little bit more involved [229.8s] in knowing what we do here. [232.2s] He says, and we're going to retcon the name because I changed it a little bit. [237.5s] We are the Guild of the Nine Shadows. [241.2s] Fancy. [242.3s] We control the fate and the order among the nine planes of existence. [248.6s] Each of them have their controllers. [250.4s] I am the controller of the material planes [254.0s] and each other plane has its own controller who you may or may not meet in the future. [260.3s] But we are in charge of keeping order within the realms and the planes. [264.8s] So if I ABB up up, will you karate chop someone in the neck? [272.3s] Was Salazar already the controller of the material plane [277.7s] before he opened the fantasy Costco? [280.2s] Or did he like, how did that work together? [283.2s] Because it seems like it works really well together. [286.2s] Sure. Yeah, it sure does. [287.7s] It sure does seem like I planned that from the beginning, doesn't it? [291.3s] It's all coming together. [292.3s] No, you did. [293.0s] No, you did. [294.2s] That's why he's our DM. [295.4s] He says, yes and no. [297.6s] I had my own life before I became the controller [300.6s] or I did run fantasy Costco and through various interactions [306.7s] with different creatures and beings, I have come into the position that I have now. [313.2s] And it is an excellent ploy for me to get in and out of places [318.0s] and have a whole bunch of things that nobody else has. [322.8s] Unless you have a fantasy Costco membership. [324.7s] Unless you have a fantasy Costco membership. [326.9s] Lifetime. [328.7s] Lifetime memberships. [330.0s] Yes, yes. [330.8s] Side note, the controller sounds like some sort of really bad rom-com [335.2s] with like Julia Roberts in it. [337.0s] Just FYI. [338.7s] We'll work on the name of who controls. [343.0s] We'll work on that too. [345.3s] Since you guys have been here, you have been working on a skill. [349.8s] Which totally happened. [351.7s] You can pick a tool set and you have been working on gaining the skill associated with said tool set. [361.0s] Oh, thieves tools, done. [363.1s] We're always like, how are we going to open this locked door? [365.7s] Smash it, smash it, smash it. [368.2s] I feel like character-wise it would make sense for me to do navigator's tools [372.2s] because that's like my whole thing is like maps and stuff like that. [377.0s] So that gets me sea proficiency as well as forest proficiency. [382.8s] That is correct. [384.3s] So we're oh and I also have swamp proficiency. [389.0s] I'm really good in nature. [390.6s] All right, I think I will go with maybe disguise kit. [396.1s] Glasses and a nose. [397.2s] Change our appearance. [399.0s] Oh yeah. [400.1s] The bitching beard always stays though. [401.8s] Oh yeah, that is a downside though. [406.4s] Could work for you. [407.6s] Could work. [408.3s] Let's go with smith's tools. [410.5s] I am a dwarf after all. [412.2s] So yeah, make note of those and then you will now have those skills. [416.4s] Thieves tools, navigator's tools and smith's tools. [420.8s] He also says you will be on your way to water deep. [425.4s] I would like you to swing by one of the shops in the guild here [429.9s] who you haven't been to see yet. [431.6s] He deals in extraordinary items and he will set you up with a couple things [437.3s] that you might need on your adventure. [439.4s] His name is Ozark and he is down on the third floor. [443.3s] He's the only thing there. [444.3s] You can't miss him. [446.3s] It's literally an entire floor devoted to this guy. [448.9s] Yes, Ozark's Bizard is on the third floor. [451.3s] Ozark's Bizard. [452.3s] Is he like the Q character from the James Bond series? [455.3s] He might be. [456.0s] Okay. [456.6s] It's a possibility. [457.6s] I'm looking forward to wearing a watch that does eight other things. [460.6s] And Salazar says unless there's anything else you need from me at this moment, [464.3s] I wish you a grand adventure. [467.3s] Tibby will unfortunately not be able to come with you as he is from another plane [471.3s] and he would probably draw more attention to you at this time [475.0s] than you would want. [476.7s] But later on down your journey, he may be able to come and join you further. [481.1s] Is there a robot plane? [483.4s] Yeah. [484.4s] An angel robot plane? [486.2s] Well, I mean, it's like a mech plane. [488.5s] So angel bots, yeah. [489.8s] Okay. [490.2s] Yeah, angel bots. [491.5s] Out of curiosity, how were we on the same plane as Tibby last time? [497.2s] Tibby, we here are able to bring things to and from other planes. [503.4s] Tibby was brought here after the Guild helped him and his clan [508.3s] in a grand battle on their planet. [510.4s] He decided that he wanted to join the Guild [513.2s] and after doing many, many training sessions [516.2s] and proving that he was able to undertake adventures of his own, [520.9s] he was brought in to work with the Guild. [522.6s] Okay. [523.1s] And he was partnered with you to help you out picking locks and stuff. [528.5s] Boy, did he ever. [529.4s] Indeed. [529.8s] He was great. [531.0s] Now we don't need him anymore, guys. [532.3s] I've got thieves tools and he had a little bit of a mouth on him. [535.2s] He was a little sarcastic. [536.6s] A little sassy. [537.2s] That damn button. [539.2s] Unfortunately, the programming is hard coded. [541.2s] We can't change that. [542.8s] Let's go to the Ozarks, get some mountain tools. [545.4s] For sure. [545.8s] Let's do this. [547.0s] All right. [547.4s] So you head down to Ozarks Bizard [550.7s] and you walk in to this room and it is a dimly lit, [556.4s] incense-filled apothecary of sorts. [559.7s] As you walk through the entrance, [562.2s] a chime rings throughout the room [564.9s] and from a back storage room door, [568.4s] a little older man in a dark robe comes out and says, [574.3s] Oh, I've been waiting for you. [575.9s] Thank you for coming down to my Bizard. [578.1s] Flint, Nularaaa, and Thea, right? [580.2s] Yeah, you must be Ozark. [582.2s] Yes, I am. [583.6s] I've been waiting to meet you guys for so long. [586.2s] Come sit down. [587.1s] And he brings you to a table [589.8s] and he hands you a package each and you open it [594.0s] and in it there is an extra healing kit. [597.5s] If you already have a healing kit, it's extra. [599.9s] Two healing potions and he hands you a key each. [605.9s] And he says, with these keys, [607.4s] you walk over to the wall over there. [609.8s] This big wall has a key. [612.1s] You put your key in and you will get something [614.1s] that should be beneficial to you [615.7s] in your upcoming adventures. [617.4s] Sort of sorcery, is this? [619.3s] Magic sorcery. [620.3s] Okay, I go to the wall [623.5s] and try to put my key in the key. [626.2s] You put your key in the key? [627.4s] Sorry, key hole. [628.3s] Oh, I put my key in the keyboard. [630.2s] Smartass. [636.6s] Which one is that? [637.4s] This one? [638.3s] And your other detail. [639.9s] How long it takes me to find it. [642.2s] Okay, that's a 90 and a four. [648.1s] 94. [649.3s] So you hear some gears churning through the wall [653.2s] and a slot opens up. [655.6s] It's a small box comes out of this slot [657.8s] and when you open it, there's a ring inside. [661.3s] Is it pretty? [662.5s] It is super pretty. [664.1s] It's a super pretty ring [665.2s] and it goes with your whole ensemble. [668.0s] He snatches it from your hand [670.2s] and goes and gives it a quick look over. [672.2s] He says, yes, yes, this is the ring of spell storing. [677.6s] I just got a tingle. [680.5s] Why were you a ghost right there? [684.2s] No, that was like, that was like a, [685.9s] whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo, whoo. [687.2s] Like I, that was a pleasure. [689.7s] That was, that was an whoo, whoo, whoo of pleasure. [691.9s] I see you're delighted by your spell ring. [694.6s] Yes, it's pretty [696.2s] and it does something that has to do with spells. [698.2s] I'm happy. [699.0s] The ring stores spells cast into it, [703.0s] holding them until the wearer uses them. [706.6s] The ring can store up to five levels [709.2s] worth of spells at a time [711.1s] and when found right now, [713.4s] it contains, it contains three spells right now. [719.7s] So I have a question. [721.7s] Are these spells that aren't necessary, [723.8s] they're not in my spell slots, [725.4s] but I could just choose any spells within. [728.6s] You have to cast them into your ring. [733.3s] And then I keep them there, [734.9s] not in my spell slot, [736.0s] so I could have different spells [738.1s] that aren't in my wheelhouse. [740.5s] Yes. [740.6s] They're in my ring house. [741.8s] Yes. [743.5s] Exactly. [746.3s] So these spells that are in your ring right now, Amy, [750.5s] are Healing Word, Guiding Bolt, [753.9s] and He's just randomly picking spells right now. [760.9s] He's just like, he's closing his eyes. [763.4s] His fingers just kind of circling over the page. [766.9s] Busted the Ouija board. [769.4s] Searing Smite. [772.2s] That sounds vengeful, [774.1s] which is right up in his alley. [776.3s] It's true. [776.7s] She holds a grudge. [777.6s] Yeah, I like it. [778.3s] Who's next? [779.8s] I guess it is me. [781.6s] I put my key in a hole and turn it. [784.3s] You want to roll your percentile die? [786.7s] Dice. [787.4s] Don't know what you mean. [788.6s] So that's the one with the number and the zero on it. [791.1s] Like this one. [791.8s] I already put that away. [793.0s] I know, you only had your four go. [797.4s] Sorry, my percentile die and that's it. [799.6s] So that is a 49. [802.4s] 49. [803.4s] Under the O, 49. [805.4s] You hear the same churning of gears and out from the slot. [809.7s] Another small box pops and you open it up and another ring is inside and he does the [815.3s] same thing. [815.8s] Gives it a look over and he says this is an alchemist's ring. [819.6s] When the wear of this ring imbibes a healing potion, they receive 1d6 additional healing. [825.5s] Sweet. [826.4s] I guess I shouldn't say me. [827.7s] Gives the wearer. [828.8s] If one of my comrades is hurt, I can just slip it on their finger. [832.7s] Lower the ring style. [833.8s] Throw that ring over there and have it just get on there. [837.9s] All right, I got a 30. [841.0s] You get a scarf. [843.2s] You get a cute pair of pumps. [844.6s] Is it some sort of awesome scarf? [845.6s] It is chilly outside. [846.7s] You get a scarf. [848.0s] Out from the slot pops a larger bag and from the bag you pull a dwarven plated belt. [856.9s] He tells you that this is the belt of dwarven kind. [861.0s] FYI, I totally wrote out belt of dwarven king and then quickly corrected it. [866.2s] Apparently, I am just a grade schooler. [870.1s] While wearing this belt, you gain the following benefits. [872.9s] Your constitution score increases by 2 to a maximum of 20. [877.8s] You have advantage on charisma persuasion checks made to interact with dwarves. [884.0s] You're like, look at my sweet belt, now do what I want. [887.0s] But that's only on charisma checks involving dwarves. [890.2s] Yes. [891.0s] If you weren't a dwarf, it would also allow you to grow a beard by the day's end. [895.2s] Oh, son of a bitch. [896.4s] Doesn't need that. [897.0s] I've got that talent natural. [898.7s] Yep. [899.5s] Thank you, Ozark. [901.1s] Oh. [901.6s] Yeah, thanks buddy. [903.0s] You're most welcome. [904.1s] Please, please come back as soon as you can. [906.4s] I have lots of things that you might maybe need. [909.5s] Sure, that sounds great. [910.9s] Maybe some things you don't. [911.9s] Who knows? [912.5s] Certainly, our ubiquitous comrades. [915.3s] Beyond your way, go catch the train. [917.5s] What's a train? [919.2s] Well, we didn't have airplanes last time, so I don't know if we have trains. [922.3s] We have flying castles. [923.5s] That's true. [924.1s] Do we know what trains are? [925.7s] Yes, because you've ridden the train before. [929.4s] When you went to fight the volcano giant? [931.5s] Oh, that's true. [932.3s] We did ride the train. [933.5s] Yeah, it was the train that, you know, took you out and then just kind of showed up. [937.7s] Can't just forget everything I just said. [939.8s] I didn't know if that was canon or not. [942.4s] It's all part of it. [943.6s] I was just kidding. [944.4s] I just forgot. [945.4s] To the train. [946.5s] So you guys go hit the train and it drops you just outside of Waterdeep and it goes off. [955.4s] And as you turn to look towards Waterdeep and look back, the train tracks are gone. [961.2s] Oh, ghost train, Polar Express, any of those ghost train, Polar Express, Spirit of Vengeance. [970.4s] Come on, give us something here. [971.3s] Back to the Future 3, any of these. [973.5s] Any of these. [974.7s] And as the train pulls away, the conductor leans out and it's Doc Brown. [981.6s] So you guys walk towards Waterdeep, I assume? [984.7s] Yes. [985.8s] So you come in near the south end of Waterdeep, which is the south end of Doc Ward's. [994.9s] And when you arrive in Waterdeep, you sense a sudden shift in the wind. [1002.5s] And with it brings a strange sense of unease. [1006.1s] The feeling is akin to the drop in air pressure before the approach of a deadly storm. [1011.6s] Or faint tremors felt from a landslide or earthquake far away. [1016.2s] And you look around and you notice you're not the only ones who have noticed this. [1020.3s] The city around you goes unnaturally quiet. [1023.4s] No dogs are barking, no birds squawk. [1025.6s] Even a lot of the street vendors have all gone silent. [1030.5s] The silence lasts only a moment before the normal sounds of Waterdeep begin to pick [1036.6s] back up again and you hear just the normal commotion of the city. [1040.9s] Well, that was weird. [1041.7s] Yeah, that really gave me the old heebie jeebs. [1045.6s] Leosin's note told you to meet at the Lord's Palace. [1051.9s] I would say we go see our homeboy Leosin. [1054.8s] Yeah, that's probably a good idea. [1056.0s] I mean, we just got hooked up with some equipment, [1057.8s] so we're good as far as that's concerned. [1059.6s] We should probably just head on in there and see what's what. [1062.8s] Yeah, okay. [1063.8s] Agree. [1064.3s] So as you as you travel through the city, [1067.6s] you notice that a lot of the animals throughout the city, [1072.8s] the horses, the dogs, the cats, all seem a bit unusually nervous and on edge. [1081.7s] More so than you would have normally expected walking through just any random city. [1086.3s] Sure, but we did just experience that weird weather phenomenon, [1089.4s] so that's probably playing along in there. [1091.3s] So you pull into the Lord's Palace and you as you walk through the main entrance, [1097.6s] you are greeted by Leosin and he says, [1101.4s] I'm so glad you are here, friends. [1103.6s] There's been some things going on and I feel we need your help. [1107.8s] The council meetings are about to begin and I've got you into them. [1113.0s] Let me lead you this way. [1114.4s] Is there anything you require from me before I send you in there? [1119.4s] They will likely ask you about your dealings with the cult to this point, [1124.3s] so be prepared to give your accounts of your adventures so far. [1130.4s] I was not told we would need to study for any sort of reason. [1135.0s] This is just like a town council meeting? [1138.8s] This is a council meeting of all of the lords and leaders across Faerun. [1146.6s] Not a guild council meeting? [1148.6s] No. [1150.5s] I mean, still not great because our memory is pretty poor, but we'll do our best. [1159.8s] Hold on people, this could get real rough. [1162.4s] But sure, sure, why not? [1164.5s] I'm sure we can do it. [1166.3s] We're nice people. [1167.9s] We can answer some questions. [1169.8s] We generally know what happened. [1172.2s] Except when it comes to needs of transportation. [1175.1s] He leads you to a large chamber and opens the door and council is currently going on. [1185.4s] So you enter and you see the man head of the table. [1190.2s] He's doing the talking right now and they are talking about [1194.3s] actually the sound that you heard when you came into Waterdeep. [1199.5s] He is asking if anybody knows anything about this sound. [1204.4s] And one woman stands up and she says, [1208.3s] The disturbance that's been sensed across the Sword Coast is the Drakorn, [1213.0s] an ancient device whose sounding alerts dragons across Faerun that great events are unfolding. [1219.7s] It's impossible to say what the sounding means, [1222.8s] but all dragons hear it clearly and will eventually answer its call. [1227.9s] The guy at the beginning of the table says, [1231.4s] Lady Silmarhelv, where did you get this information from? [1235.7s] Why do you know so much about dealings of dragons? [1240.6s] And she refuses to say where she knows from, [1244.7s] just that a family benefactor has told her stories of such a device. [1251.4s] At that time they look to you as you enter the room [1256.0s] and Anthar Froome stands up and says, [1259.0s] Our good friends who have saved us many many times are here to tell us their tales [1265.3s] and shed us light on some of the dealings that they have had with the cults [1269.3s] and hopefully bring a little more information to what we have. [1273.3s] He says, Flint, Nularaaaa, Thea, [1275.4s] if you could begin to tell your tale as to what you have experienced. [1279.7s] Where to begin? [1281.6s] Well, the main thing to know is that the dragon cult is collecting a horde of treasure [1287.4s] at the moment to try and awaken Tiamat, the queen of the dragons. [1291.7s] We curbed that a little bit, got a giant on our side, kind of smashed his castle, [1300.7s] floating flying castle. [1302.2s] As you mentioned that you smashed the castle, [1304.4s] a couple of the delegates kind of whisper to each other [1307.5s] and they have a displeased look on their face. [1309.8s] Would you like to share with the class? [1311.8s] No, continue. [1314.4s] It was unavoidable. [1315.8s] It's fair, it's fair. [1317.1s] Yes, it was like we were working together. [1319.8s] Yes, we teamed up with him to try and curb the assault of the cult [1324.1s] and as we were in the process of doing so and battling a dragon, [1329.0s] unfortunately we did a little bit of a face plant into a mountain with the castle. [1333.3s] We certainly did. [1334.9s] What's her face? [1335.8s] That awful lady. [1337.3s] Resmere. [1338.1s] Thank you. [1339.0s] So, Resmere was involved as well. [1343.5s] There's dissent in the ranks. [1345.7s] So, there are higher up people of the dragon cult [1350.6s] that would prefer Tiamat doesn't arise. [1354.4s] There's five leaders of the dragon cult [1357.4s] and they weren't exactly agreed on what direction they want the dragon cult to take. [1362.2s] Some wanted to raise Tiamat, [1363.9s] some did not want to raise Tiamat. [1367.3s] So, we killed one of them [1371.0s] and then we were in this horrible castle accident [1375.0s] and some of our memories are a bit foggy. [1377.6s] That is entirely understandable, having crashed in a castle and all. [1381.7s] Yes, yes indeed. [1383.4s] It was not pleasant. [1385.3s] The takeaway though is that I think we could maybe [1390.2s] find common enemies with some of the higher-ups in the dragon cult [1394.6s] to completely destroy the dragon cult, it seemed like. [1398.5s] There's definitely some... [1400.5s] Not everyone is on the same page over there. [1403.4s] If not destroy it, then at least alter its course of actions. [1409.8s] We didn't ever end up getting back to help the lizard people. [1415.0s] We did not signal them with a giant owl in the sky. [1418.4s] See, now I'm filled with guilt. [1419.9s] Yeah. [1420.5s] Because we said we'd get back there to help them [1422.6s] and instead we crashed a castle and never ended up getting back there. [1426.6s] So, there's a whole group of lizard folk who are working for the dragon cult [1430.6s] against their will because the dragon cult have stolen their land. [1434.6s] Well, it seems we should send someone to help them, [1437.1s] especially if a promise was made. [1438.8s] Yeah, maybe they're still just like waiting for that signal. [1441.6s] I mean, I don't know how long it's been. [1443.0s] I really hope they haven't done anything. [1444.6s] Well, we killed Resmere, though, who was running that compound, right? [1447.8s] So she never went back, obviously. [1450.9s] There was an old black dragon in the area that was also kind of running things. [1457.7s] That they had previously been alleged to. [1462.7s] But still, if you could send some people to help them out, [1465.4s] that would be great because we feel very bad. [1468.5s] Very responsible for them, too. [1470.6s] We stirred the pot there. [1471.7s] We kicked the bee's nest and we don't want them to suffer for that. [1475.4s] Hanthar speaks up and he says, [1477.3s] we will send a group of our pAlydins, [1479.5s] we will get the information from you and send a group of our pAlydins to go [1483.4s] and make sure that things are taken care of in that region. [1486.8s] Oh, and they have like a buttload of treasure there. [1489.4s] Yes. [1490.5s] Delightful. [1491.3s] We'll make sure that's taken care of as well. [1493.0s] Perfect. [1493.6s] Care of, yes. [1495.8s] Oh, the treasure was gone, guys. [1499.0s] Oops. [1499.6s] The lord at the top of the table says, [1502.3s] have you come across any hatcheries, any dragon eggs, [1506.3s] anything that could be used from that side? [1510.0s] Absolutely. [1510.7s] I reach into my like satchel, my bag and I produce a shell, [1517.1s] a black dragon egg shell. [1518.3s] Because remember, I kept one of those. [1520.0s] We destroyed a bunch of them in a cave. [1523.2s] He says you destroyed the eggs. [1527.0s] Yes. [1528.5s] Most of them. [1529.4s] It seems to be split among all of the delis. [1532.6s] There seems to be split feelings as to that. [1535.5s] He says the eggs could have been used to negotiate with the dragons, [1541.7s] but what's done is done. [1543.5s] There's still one out there. [1545.4s] It was a situation. [1546.6s] It's fair. [1547.0s] We had to make a call. [1547.7s] They were going to hatch them to unleash all holy hell on everything. [1552.4s] And you said you have killed Resmere, yes? [1554.9s] Yes. [1555.5s] And have you come to learn any alliances they have within other groups? [1561.7s] There's been rumors that they've been working with the red wizards of Thay. [1564.9s] Have you heard anything of that? [1566.6s] Yes, they definitely are. [1568.8s] Do you know the reason behind that? [1571.4s] No, that was something that we never really got privy to. [1574.4s] He speaks up and says, [1577.0s] the rumors we have heard is that they're using the wizards to conjure Tiamat. [1582.9s] Once they have adequate hordes of treasure, [1587.2s] adequate number of recruits and people in order to support their cause, [1593.4s] they are using the red wizards in order to actually summon Tiamat is what we have heard. [1599.7s] Yes, that is our high-ranking source in the Cult of the Dragon said much the same. [1606.5s] The red wizards are pawns to help with the rise of Tiamat. [1609.8s] Excellent. I'm glad that checks out as far as you are concerned. [1613.8s] The man you've been mainly speaking to continues and he says, [1617.4s] I am Lord Dagult Neverember and we wish to recruit you to help us gain more information [1625.8s] to help fight against the cult and the rise of Tiamat. [1628.5s] We are willing to deputize you and your troop in order to gain information, [1635.8s] give you investigative powers which will allow you access [1639.7s] to places where you would otherwise be unable to go. [1642.9s] If you're willing to help us, we would be willing to do that and support you in [1647.0s] any way that we can as far as each of our individual clans and organizations go. [1652.9s] Yeah, that sounds like we're pretty much on the same page. [1656.5s] What do you guys think? [1657.3s] Agreed. Sounds like our interests are definitely aligned. [1660.6s] Yeah, that cult attacks on us have been pretty personal, so we're on board for this. [1666.5s] It is excellent. We will have that paperwork written up at the end of this session. [1671.2s] There is one other thing that we have to discuss. [1674.0s] The assassination of Arthagast Ulbrinter. [1678.4s] He was a massed lord of Waterdeep and husband to Remy Haven Tree and she speaks up [1685.2s] and she says we through the harpers after this assassination have sworn to destroy the cult [1692.5s] and the threat it presents to the Sword Coast. [1695.0s] So far we have been instrumental in bringing the factions together for this council of Waterdeep [1700.6s] and we wish to set up further alliances with you and with others throughout Faerun. [1706.5s] If through your journeys you find you are able to create alliances with any other groups [1711.9s] you come across, please tell them of what we are doing and how they can help our cause. [1717.7s] Sure, yeah. That makes sense. [1720.6s] So sorry to hear of your husband. [1722.2s] Thank you. Great loss. [1723.9s] That is all we have right now. [1726.2s] Leosin told me that he has some more information regarding the whereabouts of [1730.3s] one of the worm speakers, one of the leaders of the dragon cult. [1733.8s] So if you please see him on your way out, that would be marvelous. [1738.4s] Everybody kind of stands up and makes their way to the door [1741.4s] and the lady who was talking about the Drakhorn, Dalla Silmerhielve, [1749.4s] comes over to you guys as everybody's kind of leaving and she says, [1753.4s] I know I didn't say much more but I may know where the Drakhorn is [1761.7s] and if we know where it is we can control it and if we can control it [1766.2s] we might be able to sway the dragons to not work towards bringing Tiamat back. [1774.1s] I lean over to Nularaaa and I go, oh thank god she came forward because [1777.8s] I was going to beat the information out of her afterwards. [1782.1s] She sounded like she knew more but she didn't give any more information. [1785.3s] Oh that's awesome! Yeah, we should totally find the Drakhorn. [1788.7s] Whereabouts is it or do you think it is? [1791.2s] The Sea of Moving Ice was the last known location of the Drakhorn [1796.9s] no one has ever been able to pinpoint its present location from the sound [1801.7s] or even verify with certainty that the relic is still in the northern sea [1806.1s] but the search I feel must start there as that is the last known place. [1810.4s] There is one person who could tell us more. [1813.8s] She is a tiefling sorcerer called Makath the Crimson. [1818.2s] No one alive knows more about the Drakhorn than her [1821.1s] but the Arcane Brotherhood of which she is also a member [1824.4s] hasn't seen her for three years. [1826.5s] She was investigating the Sea of Moving Ice when she disappeared as well. [1830.6s] If you wish to go to the Sea of Moving Ice [1834.8s] we can have a ship readied for you to deliver you up there. [1840.2s] Are we on good terms with this Arcane Brotherhood? [1843.1s] The Arcane Brotherhood is not an enemy of any of our causes. [1847.5s] They haven't directly worked with us but we have no reason that they would [1852.2s] present a problem to you in finding more information about what is happening. [1856.3s] We could even get them on our side. [1858.0s] That is a possibility. [1859.4s] If you are able to find Makath if she's still living [1864.2s] as she's been up there unheard of for a few years [1867.1s] if you are able to find her find more information [1869.8s] yes the Arcane Brotherhood would be a great resource [1873.7s] for knowing more about dragons and knowing more about Tiamat. [1876.9s] All right thanks for the heads up. [1878.4s] All right well should we go there? [1879.7s] Can we? [1881.2s] Donnie is a pseudo dragon so really he's just a tiny dragon. [1886.1s] So Donnie I'm assuming we're alone now. [1889.3s] All the other council members have left. [1891.0s] Everybody's kind of filtered out. [1892.3s] Donnie when we first got here did you hear something? [1897.1s] What did it say? [1898.3s] When it felt like the air pressure dropped? [1901.2s] Or did you what would tell us what you experienced? [1905.3s] And by tell us I mean psychically tell us in our brains. [1909.0s] It says well guys I did hear the noise and it was a noise. [1915.7s] It wasn't just a pressure drop to me. [1917.2s] It was coming coming far from far from the mountains [1922.1s] up towards the north. [1923.5s] So this is what she's saying is is possible. [1927.3s] So it seems like a likely place to start. [1930.0s] Do you feel like a draw? [1931.5s] Is it calling you? [1932.7s] Do you want to go? [1934.1s] I mean I don't really want to because I know what's going on. [1939.4s] You know there's dragons trying to bring back batter dragons [1942.2s] and I'm a good dragon. [1943.1s] I don't like to fight the dragons. [1946.2s] Making fun of batter? [1948.7s] We all were. [1950.8s] This is good though because if it sounds again he can hear it right? [1956.6s] Like I just wanted a little confirmation [1961.0s] Well Dalla there wasn't selling us a dole of goods. [1964.4s] Yanking our chain. [1966.5s] Yeah it's the Dracorn. [1967.7s] It's a dragon horn. [1970.4s] Not just a guy with a loud siren man. [1973.1s] So what do you think guys? [1974.0s] Sea of Moving Ice? [1975.1s] That sounds like a good spot to go. [1977.4s] Sounds like we should go see Ozarks again [1979.4s] and see if he has any like parkas or anything for us. [1983.2s] Or just ask them if they're going to like [1984.9s] they're arranging our our travel on the boat right? [1988.2s] Are they arranging us some some appropriately warm clothes? [1991.6s] And if so let's go. [1993.6s] Oil skins of some sort. [1995.1s] Yeah as you head back out Leosin is standing out [1999.5s] on the other side of the of the chamber that you were in. [2002.8s] Hey buddy. [2003.5s] How did it go in there guys? [2004.6s] It was tough to remember some of it but I think we got the point across. [2008.4s] Well they did say that your brain damage was extensive from the crash. [2011.8s] And I'm not surprised. [2013.4s] I've lost my sense of smell. [2014.8s] Well that is going to be deadly to you coming up here. [2017.5s] I'm just kidding. [2018.5s] It's a smell-based campaign. [2020.1s] No! [2021.8s] He says is there any anything that you gathered from that? [2025.5s] I do have some information to tell you regarding one of the worm speakers. [2031.8s] Great yes yes. [2033.5s] We have heard that Varam the White who is a close ally and confidant of Severin [2043.1s] is rumored to have lost their dragon mask. [2046.4s] He was the holder of the white dragon mask and he is currently last spotted [2053.3s] rumored to have been spotted out near the serpent hill. [2056.3s] Severin's the head dude right? [2057.8s] Out of character? [2059.6s] Yeah yeah. [2060.6s] Other out of character question. [2062.6s] So when we met that woman in the white scale mail at that weird house [2067.0s] that we went through the portal that was not Varam the White. [2069.7s] That was just some other person wearing white. [2073.4s] She wanted to have the white mask but Varam was the holder of the one. [2080.1s] I couldn't remember and I just saw a woman wearing white in my notes [2083.1s] and then a list of all the people and thought that that's who that was. [2086.6s] So okay perfect. [2087.4s] She was just like his underling that wanted to take over. [2091.0s] Exactly. [2091.6s] Great. [2093.4s] The cult leaders generally have other followers of the dragon type [2098.0s] that they wear the mask of so if something happens to them [2101.8s] another person is able to step into their place. [2105.5s] Great and sorry I think we cut you off. [2108.5s] Varam the White has lost his dragon mask. [2110.7s] He was? [2111.9s] He was rumored to have been seen around the serpent hills. [2117.4s] Word came from a a tradeway encampment called the Boroskir bridge [2123.1s] that he had passed through there. [2125.0s] Varam the White is for character information is a dwarf [2132.3s] and he as other leaders in the cult generally wear the purple robe set. [2138.1s] Likely he would have kept that as that is his status. [2142.3s] So when you're asking about him if you are asking about him you can ask about that. [2147.6s] I hope he enjoys plus two to dwarf charisma interactions because he's gonna get it. [2152.7s] Raz where are the serpent hills on the map? [2156.6s] I see the sea of moving ice. [2158.5s] Oh over here. [2159.2s] I do see them sorry they are to the east like the southeast of where we are. [2163.5s] Oh yep there you go. [2164.8s] And then yeah the Boroskir bridge is slightly south of the serpent hills there. [2169.0s] Yes it is. [2169.8s] So we have like a north option and a south option. [2173.0s] Okay so we'll send Thea of north to Lara's house and I'll just chill in water. [2179.1s] I like the idea of going to the sea of moving ice if this lady's alive [2183.5s] because that seems like we'd get a little more information. [2186.6s] But then again a former white mask holder in the dragon cult [2190.9s] might be able to tell us a whole lot of stuff too. [2193.5s] Yeah if he's there I guess all we get from him is information and then murder. [2199.0s] Yep but she gives us information and possible allies. [2203.0s] And maybe control of that horn. [2205.2s] And possible dragon control yeah. [2207.0s] Because if we can get to that horn. [2209.4s] Yeah that would be a huge plus for our side. [2212.6s] To be able to convince the dragons not to be all into the dragon cult people. [2218.7s] Indeed just doing some high tech mapping here. [2223.4s] Oh also serpent hills is like 500 miles away. [2227.4s] Yeah oh yeah it's not close. [2229.0s] They're both very far away according to the scale. [2231.2s] I say we go north because it sounds like more fun as well. [2234.0s] And that's how I base a lot of my decisions to adventure. [2237.9s] We've decided. [2238.8s] Okay. [2239.3s] Oh you want to know? [2242.6s] Well it helps for which page I flip to. [2244.4s] Leosan says so where do you guys need to go in order to further your investigation? [2250.3s] Well I believe our first stop should be the sea of moving ice. [2253.7s] So you will need a ship then. [2255.4s] We will. [2256.0s] I will procure you passage. [2258.8s] The sea of moving ice is dreadfully cold. [2262.6s] We will make sure that you have winter clothes in order to survive. [2267.9s] It's probably a good thing. [2271.2s] And if there's anything else you think you might need we will get it for you. [2275.6s] But you seem fairly well equipped. [2277.6s] Leosan in the council meeting they said they would [2281.3s] send some people to help the lizard folk. [2284.4s] That we kind of maybe left a little hanging near the mirror of dead men. [2289.8s] Can we count on them to be good to their word? [2292.8s] Or should we go and finish our own promise that we made? [2296.9s] Yes who was it that told you? [2299.6s] If Anthar or Lord Neverember told you I will pass that information on to them [2305.9s] and they will send someone to take care of that. [2310.0s] That is something that yes they are of their word and they will make sure. [2313.0s] Especially Lord Neverember as that is in his area of jurisdiction. [2318.2s] So that's a problem under his own roof is what you're saying. [2323.0s] So he will want to have that taken care of if it is still an issue going on. [2327.8s] Feel like there's still maybe one witch running around up there too? [2330.4s] Maybe warn them about that. [2331.6s] Definitely no those witches were down by greenest and they were further down. [2337.5s] I thought they were in this in this wood. [2341.4s] Or this wood. [2343.7s] Never mind there's no witches they're fine. [2347.1s] Maybe the Misty Forest is that where it was? [2350.8s] I don't know it was further south. [2353.8s] To the boat! [2357.4s] The captain who we will likely procure. [2363.4s] I can't think of good words. [2364.6s] That's not a word. [2365.3s] It's not a word it is now anyways. [2367.6s] The captain who we will hire is Captain Larusta Half-Face. [2372.9s] You gotta make these names easier on yourself for us. [2376.7s] Half-Face. [2379.6s] Captain what Half-Face? [2381.4s] Larusta. [2382.8s] Larry Half-Face. [2385.4s] Captain Larry Half-Face. [2387.0s] Perfect. [2389.5s] Sounds handsome. [2390.6s] We have worked with him in the past and he is he is a good man who will get you to where [2394.4s] you need to go and we will send all the all the clothing you require down to his ship [2400.4s] and have that ready for you when you are ready to go. [2402.8s] Fantastic. [2404.3s] To the ship! [2406.2s] North! [2407.8s] So you guys head to head down to the docks and there are plenty of ships down there. [2413.7s] There is there are a bunch of large ships some really small ones. [2420.1s] Some that climb on rocks. [2421.0s] And some that climb on rocks. [2423.8s] But as you walk through the docks you see a couple a couple individuals who you recognize [2432.0s] wearing Order of the Gauntlet regalia coming from a. [2436.2s] Okay do we get like badges or anything? [2438.2s] We've been deputized right? [2440.0s] Like. [2440.6s] As you leave Leosun hands you a writ for your deputization. [2447.2s] So you have on your person written a letter from. [2451.1s] Just a letter like no badge? [2452.9s] And a badge. [2453.9s] Okay. [2454.2s] And a sweet sweet badge. [2455.4s] Okay perfect. [2456.1s] I want to whip that out and interrogate some motherfuckers. [2458.8s] Alright. [2459.8s] Uh so you got you got badges you got writs. [2463.4s] Alright. [2464.1s] We got rings. [2465.1s] Yep. [2465.5s] And a snazzy belt. [2467.6s] I have a follow-up question about the ships. [2471.1s] You said that there's ones that climb on rocks but do our ships have a first name [2475.6s] or perhaps a last name? [2481.1s] Yep. [2481.6s] I can do this to myself I don't know. [2483.5s] What boat are we going on? [2485.1s] If you could spell out the letters one at a time too that would be great. [2488.5s] Alright I will do that. [2489.9s] My boat it has a first name. [2492.3s] It's. [2492.9s] So you go uh you are down at the docks and you see a couple people from the orders of [2497.2s] the gauntlet coming from a ship and as you walk in that direction a rough sounding fellow [2504.2s] yells out to you and says you guys are the ones going up north aren't you? [2508.2s] Who wants to know? [2509.5s] The old half face. [2511.8s] I'm Larry half face. [2514.2s] Ah half face. [2515.4s] How are you today? [2516.7s] Hail and well met good sir. [2518.2s] That to you too this is the uh f-r-o-s-t-s-k-i-m-m-r. [2523.5s] Ah the frost skimmer. [2524.5s] Yeah. [2529.5s] Thank you for playing along with that. [2532.1s] You're welcome. [2534.4s] That's a fine looking fine looking craft. [2539.3s] You are looking at the ship. [2540.6s] She looks seaworthy. [2542.7s] Our oh the frost skimmer has seen many a battles [2545.9s] and going up north it's the finest ship you can get on. [2548.3s] You look it over and it is a much smaller ship than most of the ships around. [2553.3s] I start knocking on the wood like I'm looking for something like I know a lot about. [2557.2s] It is a single mast ship about 60 feet long and about 20 feet across so it is [2565.2s] considerably smaller than all the other ships around you. [2569.0s] Okay it's not the size of the ship that matters. [2571.2s] Is there a genie on this boat? [2573.5s] He says no there's no genies on the boat. [2577.5s] Who is this fine fellow in the turquoise with the saber? [2581.8s] He looks rather genie-like. [2583.2s] He's one of the crewmen. [2584.2s] Oh no name. [2585.8s] You know they're gonna die. [2588.7s] He didn't name them. [2589.6s] He didn't bother to name them. [2591.0s] I didn't even give each of them a each of them a character so you know that's fine. [2595.8s] His name is Gene E. [2599.1s] Gene. [2602.0s] Tom and I decided we think it's really funny. [2605.6s] Larusta says as a matter of fact there is one guy named Gene [2609.1s] who doesn't have a last name so we'll just give that to him. [2613.5s] Good old half face always playing along with our shenanigans. [2617.0s] Larusta or Larry is a is a human and he wears a mask over his face or like a [2627.1s] covering on his face. [2628.7s] You see massive scarring over the eye of his of the right side of his face. [2635.0s] How long is our trip going to be here Larry? [2638.3s] Well it's several days. [2641.9s] Trip we have to go up the Sword Coast. [2644.0s] Could take us anywhere from five to eight days to find what we're looking for. [2649.4s] What are we looking for? [2651.3s] I think we're the ones who tell him that. [2657.3s] Sorry Tom. [2658.3s] No that's fine. [2660.9s] I thought maybe he was taking us like to a destination and then we were branching out from there. [2666.4s] Must be going to take us to the last known sighting of Tiefling Macoth right? [2672.2s] I would assume. [2673.3s] He says well the information that I was given from Lady Silmarhalve [2678.1s] was that the the Tiefling you're looking for [2682.2s] Macoth reported her progress to the host tower of the Arcana brotherhood by way of [2688.8s] sending spells and her last report spoke of seeing ice hunters paddling their sealskin boats [2693.9s] towards a huge iceberg flattened like a plateau across its surface but ringed by icy peaks [2701.4s] and she had intended to follow the ice hunters and investigate the iceberg. [2706.0s] After that no more reports came. [2708.7s] Attempts to find Macoth by the brotherhood using scrying and other magical means only [2713.7s] located her ship adrift ahead and heavily damaged. [2717.2s] Some of the ship's crew have been seen dead but no signs of the Tiefling's [2722.2s] Tiefling sorcerer were ever found which is why they believe she might still be alive. [2726.9s] However there is the lair of a dragon who is who is very powerful. [2733.4s] He is the name Ruthator and he has been known to control through fear [2741.1s] control different clans up there. [2743.1s] He himself has he knows magic is what I'm trying to say here [2747.5s] and he is a very powerful dragon and no doubt has protected his location of his lair [2755.5s] and if Macoth is alive in addition to the lore that she can you know share [2761.0s] regarding the Drakorn the arcane brotherhood would be most grateful to get her back [2766.0s] and any other information she has gained where she is being held. [2769.9s] Would it be a bonus if we kind of took a Ruthator the dragon out of the equation? [2776.2s] I mean you guys are fighting dragons right? [2778.3s] You betcha. [2779.2s] Well yeah I mean ultimately we kind of want to sway them to her side. [2783.2s] We could like bridge the divide and all come together. [2786.8s] It doesn't sound like he's that kind of guy rules through fear and whatnot but I mean. [2791.7s] From what I've heard of a Ruthator he's a he's a he's a mean motherfucker. [2798.3s] Can we get on this boat? [2799.2s] Let's do this thing. [2801.0s] Yes so you guys climb aboard and he hands you all the clothes that you would require winter [2807.3s] winter garb and I call top bunk and I run down into the [2814.2s] Turns out it's all just single cots so there are no bunks. [2818.2s] What are we working with? [2819.4s] There's bunks. [2820.8s] Of course. [2822.1s] As Larust is kind of describing his ship he says there are 40 crew aboard. [2827.5s] We do have room for you in in the bunks. [2831.2s] I already have my like entire room area set up. [2833.4s] They're sent with candles. [2837.2s] I don't light them. [2838.1s] It's a wooden boat. [2838.8s] I'm not stupid. [2839.7s] It's just for just for the film. [2842.0s] It says yes please don't use fire on my boat. [2844.6s] Okay. [2845.3s] That would be great. [2846.9s] Done or not done. [2849.0s] You know what I mean. [2850.9s] I'll put this one out right now. [2852.3s] I apologize. [2853.0s] No whispering Mui Telliente to your sword either. [2857.1s] Geez. [2857.8s] It takes you about five days travel up to the sea of moving ice. [2866.3s] You are told by Larusta, Larry. [2869.8s] You were told by Larry. [2871.0s] I'm just going to call him that. [2872.3s] It's probably easier. [2873.2s] Yeah you're told by Larry as the sight of more and more icebergs become more [2879.3s] frequently that you are in fact now in the sea of moving ice and that his ship is the [2884.0s] best ship because it is light and easily built so at night if we choose or if we get stuck [2890.8s] we can all get off and lift the boat onto the ice floe. [2896.2s] In portage. [2897.4s] He says it is about night time now as you guys are pulling into the area [2904.3s] of the sea of moving ice and he says it makes no difference to me or my crew but [2909.2s] if it makes a difference to you whether we stay on the water or on the ice at night there are [2915.3s] creatures in the area both in water and on the surface but whichever you guys prefer we [2921.8s] would just keep going until we find something or we can pull on and rest for the night. [2928.7s] You've done this before. [2929.9s] What's your your best guess for how we should proceed? [2932.6s] Yeah, Lair Bear. [2933.1s] What's your professional opinion? [2934.4s] Likely if it were just me and my crew we would just stay in the boat. [2937.9s] Okay sounds great. [2938.7s] We will stay in the boat. [2940.2s] I like that you didn't object to me calling you Lair Bear though so I feel like we really. [2944.7s] Well you guys have been traveling for a few days so you guys you guys are [2948.9s] developing a suite. [2949.3s] Maybe we've made out a couple times in the brig. [2955.5s] There's no brig but there's a broom closet I'm sure. [2957.9s] Yeah there is. [2958.5s] Yeah it's the same thing a brig in a broom closet when there is none. [2962.1s] It is getting to be nightfall now. [2964.4s] Where are you guys on deck underneath? [2966.7s] What's going on? [2967.7s] I would be on deck taking you to the sites. [2969.8s] Me too. [2970.3s] Same here. [2971.1s] You hear a loud splash come from the bow of the ship. [2974.9s] I run over to look. [2976.3s] I look for dolphins. [2977.8s] There are no dolphins. [2979.1s] Murfolk? [2980.8s] Yous. [2981.5s] Normals. [2983.7s] Looking off the starboard side you see thrashing in the water and the heads of [2988.8s] two crewmen disappear beneath the waves. [2992.2s] Surrounding the boat you see the scaly heads and bodies of multiple marrow. [2997.5s] They begin to rock the ship back and forth. [3000.8s] As the ship hits a large wave you have to hold onto the railing and you hear more [3004.9s] crewmen scream from port side as people and cargo are dumped into the water. [3018.2s] The intro and extra song Nowhere Land is by Kavin McLeod of incompetech.filmmusic.io. [3024.5s] Dumbgeons and Dragons is a Dumb Dragons production.
